There‒‒so in wrapping it up, the mall is empty, people only <br />go there to hang out, eat, and there are many economists predicting an economic crash. <br /> <br />DELIMA: Thank you. Our next testifier is Jack Rossen. <br /> <br />ROSSEN: Good afternoon. I’m here representing UH Hilo Anthropology Department <br />and the Master’s Program in Heritage Management there, and we have a whole bunch of <br />our students here. Can you show us‒‒from the Heritage Management Program. And our <br />concern is about the heiau at Baker’s Beach. And I’ve been looking at the most recent <br />development map and the heiau is still in the development area. It’s been on the <br />Environmental Impact Statement, we’ve had folks in our department do extensive <br />research on this heiau; Kathy Kawelu, Joe Genz, the Uncle Don Pakele is one of the kahu <br />who’s keeping track and watching it over, there are other locals, Uncle Herring Kalua. <br />We a‒‒ <br /> <br />DELIMA: You know, I don’t think Baker’s Beach is in the district. <br /> <br />ROSSEN: Well, it’s on the‒‒if we look at the map of the, it’s right‒‒ <br /> <br />DELIMA: Is it in Duane? Yeah, it’s not. I’m not trying to cut you off, but I think it’s <br />inaccurate what you’re just saying. <br /> <br />ROSSEN: Oh okay, because I was just looking at‒‒we have the map. <br /> <br />DELIMA: Yeah, I’m pretty certain the heiau is not in the area. <br /> <br />MEAD: Yeah, the redevelopment area stops‒‒ <br /> <br />ROSSEN: Right at the heiau? <br /> <br />MEAD: ‒‒east of‒‒so nothing more east of Ice Pond. So it’s all within the peninsula. <br />The actual Banyan Drive redevelopment area is within the peninsula. <br /> <br />ROSSEN: Okay. <br /> <br />MEAD: The map shows connectivity as it would connect.
