C Kailua-Kona, Hawai‘i 96740 <br />(808) 323-4444 Fax (808) 323-4440 <br /> <br /> <br />June 2, 2017 <br /> <br />NEWS RELEASE <br /> <br />Hilo Recycling and Reuse Center Opens to Public on June 5, 2017 <br /> <br />The Department of Environmental Management opens its Hilo Recycling and Reuse Center at <br />the Hilo Transfer Station on Monday, June 5, 2017. <br /> <br />The latest County Reuse Center will be open for business daily from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on <br />Ho‘olaulima Road, on the makai side before the Transfer Station. <br /> <br />The following types of materials accepted for reuse include, but are not limited to: <br /> Books <br /> Clothing and Fabric <br /> Construction Materials <br /> Crafts & craft supplies <br /> Garden/Farm Items <br /> Home building materials <br /> Latex base paints <br /> Office Equipment (non-computer or electronics) <br /> Recreational Items <br /> School supplies <br /> Small furniture and furnishings <br /> Small Household Appliances <br /> Tools <br /> Working appliances (based on available space) <br /> <br />The five existing Hawai‘i County Reuse Centers, in Kealakehe, Kea‘au, Pāhoa, Keauhou and <br />Waimea, provide County residents with an opportunity to easily donate items that might <br />otherwise have gone into the landfill. Useful items are then available at an affordable price. <br /> <br />The first Reuse Center, funded by the EPA, was opened in 2003 at the Kea‘au Transfer Station. <br />County of Hawai‘i is an Equal Opportunity Provider and Employer. <br />
