Takaba: Okay
Chinen: Yeah.
Takaba: Do we have any public testimony? Hearing none. Commissioners do you have
any questions?
Onizuka: Mr. Chair, I think this application is the old Kamigaki Store building in Capt.
Cook and it was abandoned, well not abandoned, but after the store shut down probably
in 2008, 2009, somewhere around there. But anyway then it was graffitied and
everything and it was a sight for sore eyes but anyway now it's been cleaned up and KTA
is planning to open a store there and I think the community welcomes with open arms. I
would like to support the application.
Takaba: Did the County build a parking lot close by?
Onizuka: The parking lot is now by the credit union. It's across of Bank of Hawaii, but
this one is further south. It was a super market before but it hasn't been in operation for
several years.
Greenwell: Chairman, seconding on what Mr. Onizuka is saying. I think it's very
becoming of KTA to step into this position because it was left vacant for so long it was
really deteriorated and it was an eye sore to the community. I think they should be
condemned....
Nahale-a: Commended.
Greenwell:...stepping in there, oh thank you, commended.
Takaba: Can we have a motion?
Onizuka: Move to approve application 16-32. If approved, public hearing to be held
July 6 in Hilo.
Arakaki: Second.
Mr. Onizuka moved that Application No. 16-32, Puna Plantation
Hawaii, Limited, dba KTA Express Kealakekua, for an original Retail
General liquor license, located at 81-6602 Mamalahoa Highway,
Kealakekua, Hawaii, be approved for a public hearing to be held on
July 6, 2017, in Hilo, Hawaii; seconded by Mr. Arakaki.
Takaba: Moved and seconded by Warren. Any discussion? All those in favor say "Aye."
The Commissioners voted "Aye."
MAY 4, 2017 - LIQUOR COMMISSION MINUTES
25
