C • Kailua-Kona, Hawaii 96740 <br />(808)323-4444 • Fax(808)323-4440 <br />Mr. Jay Kimura <br />Executive Director <br />Hawai'i County Economic Opportunity Council <br />To Whom It May Concern: <br />This letter is to express my support for the Hawai'i County Economic Opportunity <br />Council's application for an Aloha `Aina (Natural Resources) grant. <br />The Hawai'i County Economic Opportunity Council (HCEOC) is proposing to begin <br />development of a botanical garden on a site leased by HCEOC from the County of <br />Hawai'i adjacent to Rainbow Falls in Hilo. <br />The site, currently overgrown with non-native and invasive plant species, would be <br />planted with indigenous and endemic plants such as kukui, ti, laua`e and uki`uki. The <br />goal is to create a garden of native, rare and endangered species to educate residents <br />and visitors about Hawai'i's fragile and unique natural environment. <br />In conclusion, I urge you to seriously consider their funding request.
