Kawaihae; and discussion about water resources in communicating with Hawaiian Homelands <br />(DHHL) regarding future zoning intentions. <br />The Committee deferred action on the June 26, 2017 meeting minutes to a future meeting when <br />all the requested amendments had been incorporated into the draft minutes. <br />ACTION COMMITTEE ELECTIONS: <br />Mr. Childs informed the Action Committee that nothing prevents a hold -over Committee <br />Member from being elected, however he did caution that once the holdover chairs get replaced <br />with new members, a new election will have to take place. <br />Chair Mueller asked if anyone sitting on the Action Committee would be interested in being <br />nominated Chair or Vice Chair, no response was heard. <br />Committee Member Robertson nominated John Mueller to continue as Chair and Diane Kaneali'i <br />to continue as Vice Chair. No further nominations were heard. <br />Committee Member Tanimoto moved to elect John Mueller as Chair and Diane Kaneah'i as Vice <br />Chair. Second by Committee Member Alos. The motion passed unanimously. <br />BUSINESS: <br />1. Presentation by Julia Rose (South Kohala Coastal Partnership): <br />Guest speaker Julia Rose presented the research done by the South Kohala Coastal Partnership <br />on future low impact development. She provided background on the organization, including past <br />and current projects and priorities. Ms. Rose stated "Our vision is essentially a restored, healthy, <br />abundant, resilient South Kohala coastal system cared for and cherished by the island <br />community, guided by the values and traditions of South Kohala." She explained the <br />Conservation Access Planning Process in which over 70 different organizations participated to <br />implement their strategies to conserve coastal and marine resources, coastal wetlands, <br />community kinship and stewardship, coral reef ecosystems, and native reef <br />herbivores/predators. The South Kohala Coastal Partnership collaborates with its partners on the <br />Pelekane, Wai'ula'ula and Honokoa watershed restoration projects, marine monitoring projects, <br />Puako wastewater treatment upgrade projects, the ecological effects of sea -level rise, <br />community based fisheries management, collaborative solutions to water quality issues, and <br />low -impact development planning. <br />Action Committee members engaged in discussion with Ms. Rose asking her questions regarding <br />how to find more resources and asking clarifying questions about the South Kohala Coastal <br />Partnership projects.
