Communication no. 2017-11 <br />2. David Tarnas asked to clarify with Donald Smith DOT's progress in identifying a runaway <br />truck ramp along Kawaihae Road. <br />3. Mike Price asked for the reasoning of surveyors that were recently seen on Mamalahoa Hwy. <br />near the Waikoloa junction. Chair will follow up with Donald Smith. <br />4. Dr. Billy Bergin inquired on the update of additional truck runaway ramps on DKI Hwy. Chair <br />will follow up with DOT. <br />a. David Tarnas followed up by stating that the State was looking at other means of <br />alerting motorists of the DKI/Mamalahoa intersection, and to warn trucks of the <br />runaway ramp. <br />Police: <br />1. Officer Kelena Ho'okano reported: <br />a. South Kohala CPOs will be rotating their attendance at SKTSC meetings. <br />b. Officer Ho'okano focuses his work on Kawaihae Road, Kawaihae, Puako, and the <br />other coastal communities. <br />c. Reviewed the September Traffic Report with the committee. See Appendix for the <br />September Traffic Report. <br />2. Mike Price stated concern about the upcoming Ragnar Race. <br />a. The Chair did reach out to the Ragnar Race Corporation. The Chair has yet to receive <br />maps and race info, especially the impact on South Kohala roads. The Chair put the <br />race manager in contact with Community Associations across the district, hoping he <br />would attend and update South Kohala communities on the status and impacts of <br />the race. <br />Old Business: <br />New Business: <br />1. Jojo Tanimoto asked and looked for the committee's support of alternative/biking trails in <br />the Kawaihae area. Connection to Ala Kahakai trail with involvement from PATH. <br />a. This would be something that should be pursued at the State level. Project needs to <br />be placed on the STIP. <br />b. Chair asked for a show of hands from attendees, indicating a show of support and <br />overall approval of this sort of project. Unanimous support given. <br />c. Chair will follow up with DOT, Ala Kahakai group, PATH, etc. <br />2. Similarly, Bill Sanborn asked and looked for the committee's support of an <br />alternative/biking along the old Mamalahoa Hwy. alignment. Would require working with <br />PTA. Alignment is currently sitting there, unused. Get project on the radar. <br />a. Chair asked for a show of hands from attendees, indicating a show of support and <br />overall approval for this endeavor. Unanimous support shown. <br />b. Chair will follow up with PATH and PTA. <br />3. Capital Improvements Program <br />a. Traffic related projects on the CoH CIP list given to committee attendees. See <br />Appendix for CIP list. <br />b. Mike Price motioned for the committee to write a letter showing support of traffic <br />related CIP projects, and that the committee is kept abreast to the progress and <br />development of these projects. 2nd from Jojo Tanimoto. <br />Announcements: <br />1. Next meeting will be held at 4pm on November 14th in the Waimea Civic Center Conference <br />Room. <br />2. Officer nominations at the next committee meeting. <br />3. Ironman is scheduled for October 14th. <br />4. Ragnar Race is scheduled for November 4 -5th. Chair will be requesting information from <br />coordinators and race managers. Concerns about road use and lack of publicity and <br />communication. <br />
