Villaroell: It's like a mini mart. They have groceries already and now she wants to <br />incorporate selling liquor, in addition to the groceries. <br />Masuda: Do you prepare foods, too? <br />De La Cruz: No. It's just groceries, cans, candies, fresh produce, cheese, Mexican <br />cheese. Some fresh produce is Mexican from Los Angeles and some fresh produce we <br />get local. Tomatoes, tomatillos, my customers are Mexican, just Mexican. <br />Takaba: Thank you. Director, do you have any report of protests? <br />Takase: Yes, Mr. Chairman. <br />Takase: The applicant mailed seven out of eight notices within 100 feet, 333 out of 339 <br />within 500 feet, there were 333 total properties entitled to protest. We have one protest to <br />this application. <br />Taniguchi: There are two letters. <br />Gonzalez: Two letters, they are husband and wife, from the same address. <br />Takaba: Two letters of protest? <br />Takase: Two letters but from one property. <br />Greenwell: Director, can you explain about there being an elementary school near the <br />premises? <br />Takase: Yes. This location is across the old Green Onion on Kilauea Avenue, just down <br />from our office. Across the street now is Just Cruisin' Coffee, but they're in an old <br />building and there's a couple of businesses to the right of her and there's Waiakea Canal, <br />and Kapiolani School is across the canal on the other side of her. So they're within the <br />500 feet, yes. The people who are protesting are in an apartment building or <br />condominium now located next to Cafe 100. <br />Greenwell: Does this hold any merit? <br />Takase: That there is a school within the proximity? Yes, there is a school within <br />proximity. <br />Greenwell: Is there a problem with that? <br />Takase: We haven't had any problems. We have other licensees in the area. We <br />haven't had any problems and the school hasn't protested. She's opening a Mexican <br />grocery store, and there are other bigger convenience stores.
