Background <br />Who is the Mass Transit Agency? <br />The County of Hawaii Mass Transit Agency provides transportation services to the Big Island of <br />Hawaii including: <br />• Hele-On Buses, providing fixed -route transit <br />service in the Hilo and Kona areas Monday <br />through Saturday and limited commuter <br />services to the South Kohala Resort areas <br />seven days a week. (Figure 1) <br />• Shared Ride Taxi Program where <br />participants may take a cab ride anywhere in <br />the Hilo urbanized area up to a nine mile <br />radius from the point of origin by purchasing <br />taxi coupons. <br />• Kako`o Paratransit Service in the Hilo and <br />Kona area. Paratransit is a reservation - <br />based service to provide transportation <br />services to persons with disabilities who are <br />unable to use the regular fixed Hele-On bus <br />service within the Hilo and Kona service <br />areas. <br />How much does it cost? <br />Fares for each transportation service are: <br />• Hele-On Bus — <br />o general fare is $2.00 <br />Hele-On Bus Routes <br />Xmhoq r <br />A'edNeleagll� <br />A <br />P41— .� <br />Aolqune <br />N. <br />A <br />County of Hawaii Maas TransttAgency <br />emRawl rt�� <br />Photo courtesy of Mass Transit <br />(hftp://www.heleonbus.or,q/schedules-and-maps <br />Figure 1 <br />o seniors (age 60+), students, and disabled persons (with disability card issued by <br />the Mass Transit Agency), the fare is $1.00 (must have a valid ID) <br />o sheets of ten bus tickets ($15.00 for general and $7.50 for senior, student, and <br />disabled riders) <br />o monthly passes ($60.00 for general and $45.00 for senior, student, and disabled <br />riders) <br />• Shared Ride Taxi Program - taxi coupons are sold in increments of one ($6.00), five <br />($15.00), 10 ($25.00), or 15 ($30.00).
