May 6, 2018 <br />Summit lava lake keeps dropping <br />The summit lava lake has dropped significantly over the past few days, and this evening was <br />roughly 220 m below the crater rim. This very wide-angle camera view captures the entire <br />north portion of the overlook crater. <br />An overflight video from Leilani Estates this afternoon (May 6) showed lava erupting <br />from fissure 8 formed an `a'a flow, which advanced northward about 0.9 km (0.6 miles) by <br />10:30 a.m. HST. This fissure eruption diminished around 4:00 p.m. HST, but the (lava <br />flow continued to advance slowly for several hours (last report at about 7:00 p.m. HST). <br />6 <br />
