<br />CIVIL DEFENSE AGENCY DATE: June 18, 2018 <br />MEDIA UPDATE TIME: 6:00 AM <br /> UPDATE: #1 <br /> <br />Incident: East Rift Zone Eruption <br /> <br />This is a Civil Defense Message for Monday, June 18 at 6:00 in the morning. <br /> <br />The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center reports an explosion at the Kilauea Summit. The <br />energy is like a 5.3 magnitude earthquake. No tsunami expected. <br />Hawaiian Volcano Observatory reports Fissure 8 continues to be very active with a fast <br />moving channelized flow entering the ocean at Kapoho Bay. The vent is producing a <br />large SO2 plume and a large laze plume at the ocean entry. Seismic activity continues <br />at Kilauea Summit. <br />On the Leilani Eruption: <br />5,914 acres or nine and a quarter square miles of land has now been impacted. <br />533 homes have been destroyed. <br /> <br />Numerous resources are available to residents of Hawai‘i County who suffered damage <br />or losses from the Kilauea volcanic eruption and recent earthquakes: <br />A Disaster Recovery Center or DRC, is open daily from 8am to 8pm, and is located at <br />the Keaau High School Gym. <br />Today, Tuesday and Wednesday, free medical, dental and eye care will be available <br />at “Tropic Care 2018” at Kea’au High School.
