North Kohala Community Access Group <br />June 6, 2018 (Old State Judiciary Building 4:30pm) <br />Participants: David Tarnas, Carter Collins, Joe Carvalho, Beth Robinson, Jack Hoyt, Keith Wallis, Aric <br />Arakaki, Toni Withington, David and Catherine Swatland. <br />❖ Pololu Lookout <br />o Na Ala Hele reported that the legislative funding for planning changes in the Pololu <br />lookout were not passed. Also that DLNR has signed a Letter of Intent to work with Surety <br />Kohala Corp. on a consolidation/resubdivision that would involve land exchanges between <br />the parties. No details on the deal are available, but it could end with the State getting the <br />floor of Pololu Valley and a parking area near the lookout. What Surety would get is <br />unknown. <br />o There will be a Na Ala Hele advisory board meeting to address the trail at Polulu in Hilo <br />on June 20. <br />❖ Niulii <br />o A work party for clearing the emergency by pass road (Pratt Road) from Nuilii till Halawa <br />has been scheduled for July 7. Contacts for participation are Jeff Coakley and Sarah Fujii - <br />Pule. <br />❖ Hapu'u — Kapanaia <br />o A blessing will be held in the near future for the land at Hapu`u Bay, including Hale O <br />Ka`ili Heiau, which has been purchased by the County. <br />o The fencing of the Misty Kai property has been completed and allows pedestrian access <br />makai of Kapalama Heiau and the pasture. <br />o The forms for nominating the 93 -acres Kapanaia land to the State Legacy Land <br />Preservation Commission are complete and the County is expected to file them in July. <br />•'• Halelua <br />• o A formal report was made to the Planning Department calling for the completion of the <br />Grant of Public Access Easement (GOE) on this land and others on the agenda. No <br />response from PD yet. <br />•'• Pahoa Beach <br />• o The problems the location of the lateral access and enforcement of blockage of the trail <br />were also included in the report to the Planning Department. <br />❖ Upolu Airport East <br />o The land mauka of the airport, which sold to Kuleana Spirits, the rum -producing company <br />will be inspected by Ala Kahakai and Meredith Speicher of NPS for historic easements of <br />a roadway and the Railroad right-of-way. <br />o The GOE for Upolu East was also a topic in the report to Planning Department requesting <br />help in solving differences in the location of the parking and trail. <br />❖ Upolu Airport Restoration <br />o NSTR. <br />Page 1 1 <br />
