<br />CIVIL DEFENSE AGENCY Date: July 9, 2018 <br />MEDIA UPDATE Time: 1600 <br /> Radio Frequency: <br /> Update: 3 <br />East Rift Zone Eruption: MON 7/9/2018 4PM <br />This is a Civil Defense Message for Monday, July 9 at 4:00 in the afternoon. <br />Hawaiian Volcano Observatory reports that Fissure 8 continues to be very active and is <br />feeding a lava channel to the ocean at Kapoho. The flow is producing a broad ocean <br />entry along the shoreline, and continues to expand into Kapoho Beach Lots and north of <br />Four Corners intersection. <br />There is no immediate threat at this time. However residents in the Cinder Road area <br />are advised to be prepared for voluntary evacuation if necessary. <br />The following policies remain in effect: <br />• Kapoho Beach Lots and Four Corners area are closed to any access. <br />• Be aware that spill overs of the channel and other breakouts are possible on the active <br />flow field, do not access the active flow field due to extreme hazard. <br />The National Weather Service forecasts showery light trade wind conditions through <br />tonight. Some areas will experience elevated SO2 levels. You are reminded to take <br />actions by sheltering in place or leaving affected areas. <br />The Disaster Recovery Center is open daily from 8 AM to 6 PM weekdays, and 8 AM to <br />4 PM weekends. The Center is located at the Kea`au High School Gym. If you need a <br />ride, buses run between the two shelters and the Disaster Recovery Center. <br />We are on watch 24-hours a day for your safety. <br />This is your Hawai‘i County Civil Defense Agency. <br /> <br /> <br />
