A number of amendments have been <br /> proposed to the County Charter. You may vote on these proposed <br /> changes at the general election on November 7, 1990. If a <br /> majorityof voters vote in favor of the amendment, it will become <br /> part of the County Charter. <br /> At the voting booth, you will receive a charter amendment <br /> ballot with sixteen different questions: Proposals "1"-"16. " If <br /> you favor the proposed change to the County Charter, you should <br /> vote "yes" on the proposal. If you do not favor the change, you <br /> • should vote "no. " <br /> The proposals are summarized below. <br /> ***************************************************************** <br /> Proposal "1" <br /> Ballot Proposal "1" would change the county council to <br /> single-member districts, and reduce the council member's terms <br /> from four years to two years. <br /> At present, the county council consists of nine members. <br /> Each of the nine council members is elected by the voters of the <br /> entire county. Each voter may vote for all nine council members. <br /> Six council members must live within specific geographical <br /> districts, while three may live- anywhere in the county.
