Do you have an inspector here? How many inspec- <br /> tors are you allowed? By this (inaudible) by ordinance. <br /> BELLO: The ordinance doesn't spell out (inaudible) . <br /> JUVIK: Excuse me. Is there. . . is the department, in <br /> your knowledge (inaudible) time suggested either mayor or <br /> Council politics or whatever , play any significant role in <br /> the location of fire stations or which ones are built first? Or. . . <br /> In other words , did the. . .did the. . . is the sound judgment <br /> of the Fire Department in terms of the needs of the <br /> community reflected in the Council decisions? Or did the <br /> Council and the mayor decide where these fire things.. . <br /> are on the basis of political decisions , do you think? <br /> BELLO: Implicitly wrong. What 's been done is to the <br /> (inaudible) from the fire chief himself. What did he put it <br /> into the Council. . . into the budget what it is . And of <br /> course we do have (inaudible) trying to get it. . . that ' s <br /> where their complaint is . So you have a fair exchange of (inaudibl) . <br /> GREENWELL: I think the Fire Department today. is more <br /> professional than it used to be. Years ago, it was very <br /> political. Today it ' s become a low trend professional <br /> department. <br /> BELLO: Well, that ' s . . . that is one image we would like <br /> to uphold , but politics is ._ . .was there. <br /> GREENWELL: Not like it used to be. <br /> BETHEA: Well, you would consider yourself a <br /> political appointee, would you not? I mean that ' s not. . .no <br /> reflection obviously on your qualifications . But the <br /> process by which you were appointed was a political process . <br /> GREENWELL: But you have to have certain qualifications . <br /> 188 . <br />
