I <br /> also serve as Coordinator of the Mass Transit Agency, the <br /> subject of this review. <br /> Ordinance 153, effective October 1, 1975, amended <br /> Chapter 2, Article 5 of the Hawaii County Code, creating the <br /> Mass Transportation Agency. The major points of that amend- <br /> . <br /> ment include: <br /> 1. The Transit Coordinator, exempt from civil service <br /> law, shall be appointed and removed by the Mayor. <br /> 2. The Transit Coordinator shall be responsible for the <br /> administration and operation of County Mass <br /> Transportation. <br /> With the above authorization, bus operations commenced <br /> on December 15, 1975, as a demonstration project. The <br /> project is currently under evaluation. <br /> I believe that the Mass Transit Agency should maintain <br /> its status as an independent agency, either as a part of <br /> the Mayor's Office or apart, but reporting directly to the <br /> Mayor's Office. <br /> Any change or addition in the responsibilities of <br /> .the Agency can be accomplished by ordinance within the frame- <br /> work of the exist na Chart COMM, NO. --- ° <br /> COUNTY OF <br /> COUNTY- .• HILO, HAWAII 96720 <br /> Attachments: Table of Organization, and Ordinance No. 153 <br />
