KEALAKEKUA RANCH , LTD .
POST OFFICE BOX 399
CAPTAIN COOK, HAWAII 96704
May 1, 1979
Mr. Gary Garrison, President
Kona Coast Chamber of Commerce
75-5742 T Kuakini Highway
Kailua-Kona, Hawaii 96740
Dear Gary:
Prior to my leaving for a trip to the mainland, it was my
understanding that the Chamber ' s committee on the county
charter review had come to a general consensus on several
aspects , particularly on the issue of district representation.
Upon my return, I was somewhat surprised as to the stand that
was presented to the Charter Review Commission by the Kona
Coast Chamber of Commerce. It was my understanding that the
Chamber was not going to take any position which would
contribute to any confusion by creating small districts ,
but would support a district representation which would
generally be consistent with the present representative
districts for the State.
It was also my understanding that we had generally agreed
that a shorter term would be more effective at this County
level; that such shorter term would be a more effective
form of representation.
As I have reviewed the reports on the presentation given
the commission by the Chamber, I do not recall the Chamber' s
committee on charter review having agreed upon the positions
as reported to the Charter Commission. In fact, it was my
belief that a more in depth discussion will be made by the
committee before any presentation was to have been made
to the Commission.
I am somewhat disappointed at the stand taken by the
Chamber since much of the position taken is contrary to
my beliefs as to what would contribute towards an effective
form of government for the Hawaii County.
COMM.
