Jnr,^a�...+': <br /> OFFICE OF THE MAYOR — county of hawaii , hilo , hawaii 96720 <br /> COMMITTEE ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN <br /> HERBERT T.MATAYOSHI <br /> MAYOR <br /> May 22, 1979 <br /> Kimiaki Sakata, Chairman <br /> Charter Review Commission <br /> Hawaii County Building <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> Dear Mr. Sakata: <br /> The following are recommendations for changes to the Hawaii County Charter <br /> from the Hawaii County Committee on the Status of Women. <br /> The Committee would appreciate your review of these changes and it is the <br /> Committee's hope that you see fit to include these changes in the Charter <br /> along with your other revisions. <br /> 1) Add to section 16-14 Transitional Provisions: <br /> The Hawaii County Committee on the Status of Women, established by <br /> Hawaii Revised Statute 367-4, will provide for a permanent and continuing <br /> county-wide program on behalf of women in the County of Hawaii. <br /> It shall aid in the implementation of its recommendations, develop <br /> long-range goals, coordinate research, planning, programming and action <br /> on the opportunities, needs, problems and contributions of women in <br /> (1) civil and legal rights; (2) education; (3) homemaking; (4.) labor and <br /> employment; and (5) expanded community horizons and political awareness. <br /> The committee shall consist of 21 members including any ex-officio <br /> members. These members shall be appointed by the Mayor with approval from <br /> the County Council in a.manner prescribed in the County Charter section <br /> 13-4, with the exception that members shall serve staggered terms of three <br /> (3) years. The breakdown of terms shall be seven (7) for a one (1) year <br /> term, seven (7') for a two (2) year term and seven (7) for a three (3) <br /> year term. <br /> Committee members shall be representative of the community and county <br /> geographic areas. <br /> 2) Add to the Mayor's list of duties and responsibilities, section 5-1.4: <br /> The Mayor is to assure that each department complies with all of the <br /> policy statements and the intent of the County's Equal Employment <br /> COMM, NO. <br />
