The Secretary was <br /> instructed to handle the correspondence. <br /> NEW MR. SCHUTTE: Under New Business, Mr. Chairman. <br /> BUSINESS: <br /> I thought we would have a new contract for our <br /> Secretary available at this meeting. Hqwever there was a <br /> typographical error in typing out this contract and as a <br /> result it was necessary for me submit it back to the respon- <br /> sible party to redraft. At which time, our Secretary will <br /> be available to sign it. Some time during the week instead <br /> of today as we had planned. <br /> LEGAL CHAIRMAN SAKATA: Mr. Ishida, do you have any <br /> COUNSEL: information on a Legal Counsel for the <br /> Commission? <br /> MR. ISHIDA: I regret to inform the Commission <br /> that the person we,;,had anticipated to engage, just called me <br /> today to say that he didn ' t want the position. So I contacted <br /> another person and I 'm to meet with that person, Thursday. <br /> I think it is really a question of dollars and cents. <br /> MR. SCHUTTE: I think what Commissioner Ishida <br /> is trying to say is that the person he had in mind to take the <br /> job has hired him as counsel to negotiate for him. <br /> MR. ISHIDA: No, this is another person, now. <br /> MR. CADINHA: What kind of dollars and cents? <br /> MR. ISHIDA: I don 't know. Basically, I think <br /> that what we have indicated would be fine. The only thing I <br /> think is the problem is the additional time that will be <br /> required whether there will' be additional funds for maybe some <br /> research assistance. <br /> MR. SCHUTTE: Maybe I could clarify that. <br /> Mr. Chairman, there is, to my knowledge, enough dollars. I <br /> calculated this thing commencing on a retainer basis from <br /> January 1. And then we put on an additional rider which would <br /> take care�.':of these incidentals if they develop. So the <br /> budget is made out from January 1 up until August. . .September <br /> I believe it is. - <br /> -34- <br />
