§ 2-40 HAWAI`I COUNTY CODE
<br />(6) Design and maintenance of a system of traffic control and devices;
<br />(7) Floodplain management; and
<br />(8) Construction and inspection of all other County projects, except for matters
<br />relating to the department of water supply.

<br />Section 2-41. Divisions within department.
<br />The department of public works shall be divided under the director into the
<br />following divisions:
<br />(1) Engineering Division. The engineering division is responsible for coordinating
<br />the planning, engineering, and implementation of the highway and drainage
<br />capital improvement projects, coordinating all land surveying, conducting
<br />necessary land rights acquisition, and providing construction inspectional
<br />services.
<br />(2) Traffic Division. The traffic division determines the location, installs,
<br />maintains, and repairs all traffic control facilities and devices and street
<br />lighting systems; is responsible for all traffic engineering in the County;
<br />maintains a traffic education program; and is responsible for the installation,
<br />maintenance, and repair of on- and off-street parking meters.
<br />(3) Building Division. The building division is responsible for public building
<br />construction and inspection; plans, specifications and applications for private
<br />building and construction; plumbing, electrical and building permits; and the
<br />enforcement of all County ordinances related to building, construction and
<br />inspection.
<br />(4) Highway Maintenance Division. The highway maintenance division shall be
<br />responsible for the construction and maintenance of all roads, streets,
<br />highways, footpaths, storm drains, bridges, flood channels, and certain
<br />cemeteries.
<br />(5) Automotive Division. The automotive division shall:
<br />(A) Be responsible for the repair and maintenance of all garage, shop, and
<br />automotive equipment of the County, except such equipment as may be
<br />more practically maintained by the department having control thereof as
<br />determined by the director of public works;
<br />(B) Furnish parts, accessories, gasoline, lubricants, and tires necessary for
<br />the repair for automobiles, trucks, shovels, cranes, graders, sweepers,
<br />compressors, and other such machinery or equipment; and
<br />(C) Be authorized to bill any department, agency, or special fund for
<br />supplies, services, and use of equipment.
