Chief Ferreira reported that other agencies are assisting with the <br />search of the suspect Justin Waiki. Funeral arrangements are being finalized. <br />Vice Chair De Luz pointed out that auto accidents have been high. Chief Ferreira <br />stated that they had 3 fatalities in a 24-hour period and another one involving a bicycle. <br />Vice Chair De Luz stated that he was contacted by a company about vehicle tracking <br />technology. He will forward the information to the Chief. <br />Chief Ferreira reported on the upcoming funeral services for recently retired Assistant <br />Chief Henry Tavares. <br />EXECUTIVE SESSION (Closed to the public.) <br />Commissioner Hu motioned to meet in executive session to consider charges against <br />officers or employees of the Hawaii Police Department and to work on the semi-annual <br />evaluation of the police chief where matters affecting privacy will be involved, to consider <br />sensitive matters relating to public safety, and may consult with Corporation Counsel on <br />questions and issues pertaining to the commission's powers, duties, privileges, immunities, <br />and liabilities pursuant to HRS 92-5 (a) (2) (4) (6) and the Hawaii County Charter Section <br />13-20 (b). Commissioner Carlson seconded, and it carried unanimously. Closed session <br />convened at 10:38 a.m. <br />Open session reconvened at 11:05 a.m. <br />ANNOUNCEMENTS <br />Chair Hendricks announced that the Police Commission's next monthly meeting is <br />scheduled for August 24, 2018, at 9:00 a.m. in the Aupuni Center Conference Room, 101 <br />Pauahi St., Hilo, Hawaii. <br />ADJOURNMENT <br />The meeting was adjourned at 11:08 a.m. <br />August 28, 2018: Submitted for posting by Josie Pelayo but not reviewed by commission. <br />
