Birch, Commissioner <br />____ <br /> <br />Also present: Nancy Cook Lauer, media <br /> Nancy Crawford, Deputy Director of Finance <br />Dennis Kauka, Jr., Executive Assistant Aide – Office of the Mayor <br />Nancy Kelly, Budget Administrator – Department of Finance <br />Ronald Kim, Deputy Corporation Counsel <br /> <br />STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC <br />Nancy Crawford and Nancy Kelly from the Department of Finance were welcomed by <br />the Commission to provide a presentation on the current proposal for a surcharge to the <br />general excise tax as it relates to the County budget, finances and eruption recovery <br />efforts. <br />Ms. Crawford informed Commissioners that the County faces an approximate $5 million <br />shortfall due decrease of real property tax revenues from adjusted property values for <br />properties that experienced a complete loss due to the eruption. <br />During the briefing, Commissioners discussed issues related to the topic: <br />Assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) <br />FEMA and State funds already received are taken into consideration with County <br />budget but are used for response to the disaster, itself, such as shelter and <br />repairs. <br />Is there a special state fund providing insurance for Leilani Estates <br /> <br />
