Q: What is the County's intention for providing parking in Pahoa Town? <br />A: There are many different ways to manage parking. The County is currently looking into <br />different potential options to provide parking. <br />Q: Is the County planning on charging admission to cover the cost of constructing the new lava <br />viewing area? <br />A: That is being discussed. A range of options are being considered, while keeping affordability <br />in mind for local residents. <br />Q: Will the prohibition on section 8 housing end? <br />A: Section 8 housing is something that is being considered and the process has been started. <br />We are seeking extra section 8 vouchers from other jurisdictions that we can take on. <br />Q: Will there be a prohibition of building in lava zones 1 and 2? <br />A: The County hasn't taken a particular stance on building prohibitions quite yet, but several <br />options are in consideration. <br />Q: Who is going to decide where development needs to start and stop? <br />A: The County and State will need to come together and work on risk assessment for future <br />developments to provide guidance as to where development should be allowed. <br />Q: Has there been any efforts to reach out to volcanologists to help inform future planning? <br />A: Yes, since day one on a 24 hour basis there has been at least one volcanologist at the <br />emergency operations center. They are constantly informing the entire process including plans <br />for recovery. <br />Q: Does the FEMA funding compensate the loss in tax revenue? <br />A: No, FEMA funding does not cover losses in tax revenue. <br />Q: Will the shelters be closing soon? <br />A: There is no current plan to close the shelters. There is a push to get those in shelters into <br />more permanent housing as quickly as possible. The shelters would then close once everyone <br />has found alternative housing options. <br />Q: How is relocation of those who have been displaced going to be handled on the County <br />level? <br />A: Daryn Arai from the Planning Department is working on collaborative efforts between <br />County agencies and private parties to come up with relocation solutions. <br />Q: What is the current status of PGV? <br />A: PGV is partially inundated. It is shut down, safe and secured. PGV has committed to keeping <br />their staff employed for at least a year. They have also made a significant charitable financial <br />contribution to relief efforts.
