Saquing <br />Donna Mae Springer <br />RE: Transmitting CA -3; Proposed Amendment to Add a New Section to the County <br />Charter to Establish a Climate Change and Resiliency Commission and a New <br />Section Relating to Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reporting and Reduction; <br />Submitted by Commissioner Galimba <br />Please find attached CA -3, which proposes to add a new section to the County Charter to <br />establish a Climate Change and Resiliency Commission, which would be empaneled to <br />gather information on the county's progress towards goals and targets related to reducing <br />or off -setting carbon and other greenhouse gas emissions and increasing infrastructural <br />and systemic resilience to climate -related risks. <br />CA -3 also proposes to add a new section to the County Charter that would require the <br />director or head of any County department, agency, or other governmental office to <br />provide an annual report to the Climate Change Resiliency Commission, County Council, <br />and Mayor detailing the amount of greenhouse gas emissions produced through the <br />operations of that department, agency, or County office and the goals, plans, and <br />objectives of each department, agency, or County office to become net carbon neutral by <br />2030. <br />CA -3 will be placed on the November 9, 2018, meeting agenda for its initial <br />consideration and approval prior to first reading. <br />Should you have any questions, please contact our Commission Analyst, Jon Henricks. <br />DSA/jdh <br />Hawai`i County is an Equal Opportunity Provider and Employer <br />Comm.
