Provide a brief description of the purpose of the proposed charter amendment; include <br />a description of the issue the proposal would address: <br />The creation and implementation of the Salary Commission was very successful in <br />minimizing favoritism and appearances of political interference in the compensation <br />of senior County officials. Unfortunately, the process has also absolved the Council <br />and Mayor from any responsibility to control spending on these officials, leaving it to <br />the unelected Commission who are not directly accountable to the public. The <br />proposed amendment places final responsibility back on Council and the Mayor, <br />where it belongs leaving details to the Commission. <br />4.
