GT -004 <br />Section 13-27. County Election. <br />(a) No person shall be a candidate for more than one elective office in the same election. If no person is <br />elected to a county office, the county council shall appoint a person to fill such office. County elections <br />shall be conducted in accordance with the election laws of the state insofar as applicable. <br />(b) All county elective officers—mayor, council members, and prosecuting attorney—shall be elected in <br />nonpartisan a special elections. Such spccial cicctionschall to be held with the primary and general <br />elections of the applicable year. <br />(c) First spccial cicction. The first spccial cicction shall bc hcld with thc rcgularly schcdulcd primary <br />cicction. Any candidatc for mayor, prosccuting attorncy or council rccciving a majority of all votcs <br />validly cast for candidatcs for that officc, cxcluding blank and spoilcd ballots, shall bc dccmcd cicctcd. <br />If thcrc is only one candidatc for thc officc, that candidatc shall bc dccmcd cicctcd rcgardlcss of the <br />numbcr of votcs rcccivcd. <br />(d) Sccond special election. The sccond special election shall be held with the regularly scheduled <br />general election. Unlcss a candidatc has bccn cicctcd in thc first spccial cicction, thc two candidatcs <br />rccciving thc highcst numbcr of votcs for thc officc in qucstion in thc first spccial cicction shall be <br />placcd on thc ballot for thc sccond spccial cicction. At thc sccond spccial cicction thc candidate <br />rccciving thc highcst numbcr of votcs for each rcspcctivc officc shall bc dccmcd cicctcd. <br />
