From: Marie Morin <mariemorin24@gmail.com>
Sent: Thursday, January 10, 2019 11:13 AM
To: Charter Commission
Subject: STRENGTHEN THE LAND FUND
January 9, 2019
Dear Charter Commission:
Please do not change the County Charter in regards to the Land Fund, the Maintenance Fund, and by removing
the perpetuity language. Please keep the Land Fund at 2%, leave the Maintenance Fund in the Charter, and do not allow
the protected lands to be sold, mortgaged, or transferred for different use. Now is the time for Hawaii County to step up
and preserve important unique, culturally important, and open green spaces for future generations to come. PLEASE
VOTE NO on Communication 21 for Charter Amendment 7. As a citizen of Hawaii County I am working hard as a
volunteer with a local non-profit to preserve one of these special places, qualifying under PONC criteria. Our local
community, island, and state future quality -of -life benefit from the foresighted creation of this program, which the
public overwhelmingly supports. Please VOTE NO on Communication 21 for Charter Amendment 7.
Also, please vote YES to fund a staff position. By having a fully dedicated staff member responsible for
reviewing proposals, responding to questions, and helping priority projects obtain funding, we will be able to more
quickly conserve the special places in our irreplaceable island home.
The future generations will thank you.
Mahalo.
Marie Morin Ph.D.
P.O. Box 2876
Kailua Kona, HI 96745
i
1
Comm. No. 21.48
