North Kohala Community Access Group <br />December 5, 2018 (Old State Judiciary Building 4:30pm) <br />Participants: Toni Withington, Carter Collins, Joe Carvalho, Beth Robinson, Teri Takata, Aric <br />Arakaki, Pete Cameron, Elliott Fein, Greg Moores, Keith Wallis, Ted Matsuda. <br />❖ Pololu Lookout <br />o There was a well publicized community meeting on November 14th regarding the <br />improvements for the Pololu lookout area including government agencies, stakeholders, <br />& the landowners. <br />The DLNR stated that there is no space for a restroom on their current lands. <br />A suggestion of 5 acres on the mauka side of the road for parking lot was <br />discussed and agreed to, but the initial improvements should only accommodate <br />the needed parking. <br />• Surety and DLNR will find out how many parcels are on the Pololu <br />Valley floor & their lands on the top to be considered for consolidation <br />& re -subdivision. <br />a The lot for the parking lot would be created by that County <br />action. <br />o The stakeholders present came to a consensus to proceed this <br />way. <br />• The state department of Transportation did not attend this meeting. <br />• The Parks, Water, Roads Group of the North Kohala Community Development <br />Plan action committee have written a letter to the state DOT, DLNR & county <br />planning and police departments, as well as all our representatives, supporting <br />funding for a proposed parking lot & restroom facility for Pololu lookout. <br />•'• Akoakoa Point <br />♦ o Momi Wheeeler of Kamehameha Schools will be getting in touch with local residents <br />on the history of Akoakoa Point. <br />❖ Niulii <br />o NSTR <br />❖ Hapu'u — Kapanaia <br />o The County of Hawaii applied to Legacy Land for matching funds to make the public <br />purchase of Kapanaia area. <br />• The State Legacy Land Conservation Commission will meet on December 10th <br />& 11th to decide on grant applications. <br />o Hapu'u area has been mowed on the mauka acreages up to the conservation boundary. <br />•'• Halelua <br />♦ o The trail is marked but not open. <br />• It needs clearing & may need the community for help. <br />• This trail goes thru a parcel that is on the market for sale. <br />•'• Pahoa Beach <br />♦ o NSTR. <br />❖ Upolu Airport East <br />o Kuleana Spirits, a rum producing company is applying for a SMA for a tasting facility. <br />❖ Upolu Airport Restoration <br />o Kohala Lihikai is working with a KHS Senior for their senior project on erosion control. <br />Page 1 1 <br />
