From: outlook_598ECA43E2E9E276@outlook.com
Sent: Wednesday, January 23, 2019 8:50 AM
To: Charter Commission
Subject: Support for Hawaii County 2% Land Fund
I am writing to support the Public Access, Open Space and Natural Resources fund. Preservation of beach access,
protection of open space and sensitive lands is particularly important as the population in Hawaii grows and the
pressure for development mounts.
I live along the Hamakua Coast and in the last five years I have witnessed accelerated population growth and
development. Despite the community's overwhelming desire through the CDP process to preserve the agricultural, rural
characteristics of the Hamakua Coast, this is not what is occurring on the ground. It is truly sad to see. Now is the time to
act to preserve open spaces, not follow the urge for land speculation.
As more and more properties fall into development, coastal access is limited, viewsheds compromised and open space is
lost. We must do all we can to preserve special places and to make sure the natural beauty of Hawaii can be enjoyed by
all. I cannot think of a better way to spend my property taxes! Please do not make funding cuts, cap future purchases or
sell saved lands...this is short-sighted and true folly.
Comm. No. 21.63
