Hawaii Game Management Advisory Commission Meeting <br />Minutes – January 29, 2019 <br />TN: I second. This is Teresa. <br /> <br />BKK: Nani Pogline moved to write a letter to the Mayor to support some of the <br />legislative work that we’ve been doing and get referred to the <br />Legislative Committee. Seconded by Teresa Nakama and carried <br />unanimously by a voice vote. <br /> <br />SM: This is Stanley. It was brought to my attention –that we have public access in <br />the County ordinance for makai – ocean – but we don’t have an ordinance for <br />mauka. So I was told by the Na Ala Hele Trails System person that we should <br />go to the County Council and get one ordinance for mauka. <br /> <br />BKK: Do you know what the ordinance of the... <br /> <br />SM: You mean makai? I don’t know what that ordinance is but we need to add <br />mauka, I mean, the mountain to it. Cause right now the, you know, with <br />access to hunting areas and stuff like that it’s landlocked and, you know, you <br />cannot do anything so he said we need one ordinance. <br /> <br />BKK: And did you hear any reason why it wasn’t in it... <br /> <br />SM: It’s not there in the ordinance so they cannot force anybody to or even go and <br />bring it up to them that, you know, to let guys go up. <br /> <br />BKK: You’re requesting it to go to the Legislative Committee? <br /> <br />SM: To the County Council so I don’t know if it’s a... <br /> <br />BKK: OK. We can probably have a working group – work with County Council, <br />probably recommend referring it to the Legislative Committee – so if you want <br />to make that motion... <br /> <br /> <br />BKK: Stanley Mendes moved to have a mauka access in the County ordinance <br />for mauka access. Seconded by Nani Pogline and carried unanimously <br />by voice vote. <br /> <br /> <br />Traditional Customary Practices & Fishing <br /> <br />TN: This is Teresa – I had my first meeting on December 4, I believe, my <br />attendees were Reed Chook, Zen Hewlin and Darryl... Anyway, they all <br />attended the study group Conservation International meeting both in Kona <br />and they didn’t go to the one in Hilo and they felt like everybody else felt – <br />and they felt that the community should be really involved and they want to be <br />involved and we’ll be meeting monthly and they’re reaction to the whole <br />31 <br /> <br /> <br />
