Aliyah DeCambra
7th grade student
Volcano School of Arts and Sciences
Volcano, Hawaii 96785
February 5, 2019
Charter Commission
Hilo, Hawaii 96720
Aloha Commissioners,
Regarding: 2% Land Fund Program
am Aliyah DeCambra, my parents are Danielle Callo and Gabriel Callo,
I live in Volcano,Mauna Loa Estates. I am grateful to go to Kawa twice a
month because I learn about native and ancient Hawaiian history. Kawa is
important to my school, myself and my community because it shows history
of how hawaiian culture was like before our time, and how the Hawaiians
lived their life on a daily basis.
Kawa is a place where me and my class go every other Wednesday; we
spread positivity and work our hardest to make Kawa a beautiful place. I
hope in the future I'II go back to see what i've accomplished. Kawa is now
a paradise of land, and I wish I could have been there before to help out,
but I heard that it looked really bad. They said there were tree branches all
over and rubbish everywhere. I hope to see Kawa in the future and hope
for it to still look like paradise.
The voters on the Big Island want the land fund. The Land Fund program
has been in existence since 2006, only 63% of voters approved. They also
approved it in 2010 and 2012 the votes had stayed the same at 63%.
Waikapuna is another sacred land in Ka'u that should be preserved, other
than Kawa.
Comm.
