Kaimana Klein
Student
Volcano School of Arts and Sciences
February 7, 2019
Aloha Commissioners,
My name is Kaimana Michael Erwin Klein, my mother is Kirsi Elizabet Klein and my father is Patrick
Michael Brogan. I live in Discovery Harbor, a town in Ka'u. I have gone to VSAS for seven years and
everyday driven past the small area of Kawa. Kawa is important because it was one of the last true
Hawaiian fishing villages up until around a decade ago. The place represents the spirit of Ka'u. I think I
can learn more about Hawaiian culture by going to Kawa and getting involved with the land first hand.
Kawa is valuable for all because everyone who goes there receives a little happiness and then
share that happiness with someone else, and then that someone else shares with someone else, and
so on. Kawa is a beautiful place that seems timeless. It is culturally rich and has centuries of history.
Please continue to fund the land fund so Kawa and other places will enrich all our lives.
Mahalo,
Kaimana
Comm.
