According to a West Hawaii Today article from 10/07/2018, titled "Clearing the streets", our county is paying
$680 disposal fee, for disposal of each abandoned vehicle, which does not include the cost of towing it to the recycling
site. As a private citizen, I can tow a vehicle to the same designated scrap metal recycler, and be charged only $150-190.
Shouldn't there be some safeguards in place to protect the county (ie. the taxpayer) from being ripped off like this? $12
of every yearly vehicle registration goes towards disposal of these vehicles. I think we could be using these funds much
more wisely!
Sincerely,
Heidi Jaworski
Ocean View Neighborhood Watch Coordinator
PO Box 377151
Ocean View, Hawaii 96737
1
GT -007
