Fayetteville, North Carolina <br />PROFESSIONAL ANNOUNCEMENT <br />FAYETTEVILLE, NC (POP. 210,000) - Fayetteville, NC is <br />one of the most family -friendly, patriotic, and diverse <br />communities in America. They are proud to be home to <br />Fort Bragg, the Army's headquarters for Airborne and <br />Special Operations forces, and Pope Air Field. It is also <br />home to the Army Forces Command making the 57,000 <br />military, 11,000 civilian employees and 23,000 family <br />members one of the largest military complexes in the <br />world. <br />Located in Cumberland County, the City is more than 250 <br />years old and steeped in history. The City's 100 square <br />miles include a historic downtown shopping area, <br />numerous historic sites, seven museums, three colleges <br />and universities, multiple entertainment venues, and <br />award-winning golf courses. The City is seeking <br />experienced chief officers with strong leadership skills as <br />candidates for its next Fire Chief. <br />The City is constantly growing, changing and supporting <br />more than 210,000 residents, making it the sixth largest <br />City in North Carolina. With a median age of 30.7, <br />Fayetteville is filled with the energy of young adults and <br />families with young children. Conveniently located within <br />a couple hours' drive of Myrtle Beach and other popular <br />east coast beaches, families can make day trips to the <br />ocean or they can head north to the scenic Blue Ridge <br />Mountains for a weekend of camping, fishing or hiking. <br />The Fire Department is staffed by 332 sworn personnel, <br />with a total budgeted staff of 339. The department <br />provides services from 17 fire stations with full Fire, EMS, <br />Community Risk Reduction, Aircraft Rescue and <br />Firefighting as well as Emergency Management and <br />Special Teams Operations. The department responded to <br />30,443 calls in 2018. The Department is accredited <br />through the Commission on Fire Service Accreditation <br />international, one of 258 departments nationally and one <br />of only 73 agencies with an ISO rating of "Class 1" rating. <br />The department has an operating budget of $29,305,622 <br />(2019). <br />The successful candidate will provide: <br />• Leadership: Be dedicated to becoming an effective <br />leader and building collaborative and positive relation- <br />ships with other staff members and outside organiza- <br />tions in the region. <br />• Innovation: Provide fresh ideas for alternative service <br />delivery and forecasting for service calls and <br />improved response times as well as providing new <br />ideas for increasing diversity within the department. <br />• Enthusiasm: Provide focused energy and <br />enthusiasm for managing projects that require <br />involvement across multiple service areas and have a <br />true passion for service to the community. <br />Other desired attributes include: <br />• Desire to be part of a great team with a continued <br />focus on local and regional issues. <br />• A complete understanding of the Accreditation <br />process and how to successfully maintain <br />Accreditation. <br />• Strong background in providing leadership through <br />succession planning and mentoring. <br />Successful candidates will possess a Bachelor's Degree <br />in Fire Science, Emergency Management, Homeland <br />Security, or a closely related field from an accredited <br />college/university. Experience and demonstrated success <br />in a fire command leadership position are required. A <br />Master's Degree and 10 -years of supervisory experience <br />as a chief officer in fire department operations and <br />administration are preferred. Completion or enrollment <br />with a completion date in the National Fire Academy <br />Executive Officers certification is desired. The hiring <br />salary range for this position is $115,000 - $140,000 <br />depending on experience/qualifications.
