Aloha,
I am writing in regard to Resolution 665/666-20. My company, Kilauea EcoGuides, has been shut down since the end
of March 2020 due to the impact of COVID-19 and the Coronavirus. My company offers private, education based
tours for visitors within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. All commercial activity inside HVNP has come to a halt
since the end of March 2020.
Because of this my company has generated $0 of revenue in the past 3 months, however we still incur monthly
expenses such as liability insurance, commercial permitting, internet, phone service and rent.
A grant from Hawaii County would be very helpful in making sure my business can remain open until commercial
activity is legally and safely able to be conducted. Countless small businesses are on the verge of shutting down,
many already have. Businesses like mine need assistance until county and state officials decide it is safe for tourism to
return to Hawaii island.
