Aloha Council Members,
I am Richard Bate, owner of restaurant Kalikala Cuisine. We are located on Alii Drive in the heart of Kailu_a Village between the Palace
and the Pier. I

We opened our restaurant on March 17, 2017 and closed our doors on March 20, 2020 due to the Covid 19 Pandemic.
We were allowed to reopen the restaurant June 1st for"Dining In "service at our Governor's discretion.Our current revenue is at
15%of our prepandemic revenue.
Everyday we are open at this time,we are "loosing money".
The overhead of operating an Oceanfront restaurant on Alii Drive is staggering.We are all dependent upon Tourism to meet that 3
overhead. Without Tourists we will not survive!
Yet, the resumption of Tourism brings with it the threat of increased Covid 19 in our State.
What a horrific position for businesses dependent upon Tourism to be in. Dammed if we do and dammed if we don't.
We must figure a way to be "Safe "and also successful.
Through out our Country, and especially in Hawaii, many businesses have been forced to close due to the effect of the Covid 19
Pandemic.
We must all be careful as we attempt to bring success back into our equation. Sacrifice is an essential part of restructuring to create a
" New Normal "in our lives and businesses.
I'm not a gambler per say, but without risk there is no success. So, as we roll the dice, I can only hope and pray that each business
affected by Covid19 is successful their creative continuation.
A little "Grant Money"could go a long way toward assisting businesses to survive when the spending is more than the return.
