Aloha to whom this may concern, 7
I am responding to the email received today, July 6th, regarding a Micro Grant for Small Businesses on the Big
Island.
I am the owner of a 2-year established business called Emilie's Organics LLC. My business is a specialty food service
and bakery based in Honoka'a that sells to wholesalers and retailers. When the pandemic struck in March, my
earnings came to a screeching halt, resulting in 100% of my income being lost. My gross net depended upon the
wholesalers of our community, the locals who celebrated daily, weekly and monthly events with hand-crafted baked
goods and the visiting tourists who planned to get married on the island. Wholesalers were forced to close their doors,
or at least only allow take-out, which left them without the need to supply their shelves and only offer the bare
minimum. Travelers and tourists were advised to cancel their travels, which caused weddings to be cancelled
temporarily or entirely. Locals were mandated to stay home, cautioned to only go out for essentials. This pandemic
has shown me how much my work relies on people who wish to celebrate. This pandemic, and the mandates that have
followed suit, have given reason to cancel celebrations of all kinds. I am a part of the many who have financially
suffered a great deal during this time, so I appreciate your time to read how it has impacted one of us.
Thank you for your time and attention.
Sincerely,
I milie Skladzien
