RE: Appointment to the Leeward Planning Commission
Dear Chairman Chung and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to appoint Barbara DeFranco of Captain Cook to the Leeward Planning
Commission. She is the Executive Director and Founder of Paleaku Peace Gardens, a
non-profit resource center and is currently employed as the Manager and design
consultant for Indich Collection.
Ms. DeFranco attended the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and the Hawaii
Community College. She has resided in Hawaii for approximately 50 years and is
deeply committed to her community. She was a member of the Kona CDP action
committee for four years and served as chair for one of those years. She is a tireless
volunteer on various community organizations.
Ms. DeFranco states she is not a member of any political party. If confirmed, she will
serve a five- year term to end March 31, 2025.
