I am in favor of Bill 178. I feel it is important to encourage Hawaii residents to plant native trees on their property by j
< iving them a property tax deduction. Native trees are an integral part of our Hawaiian ecosystem. As more of the
land on the Big Island is obtained for personal property, landowners will plant more native trees if given incentives
through tax deductions, instead of planting ornamentals that at times are invasive. I personally have been planting
native trees on my property for 8 years now and hope to see more people doing so in the future.
