I am writing to express my strong support Resolution 678-20. Please allow me to share my personal story with you on why I support this resolution. I moved to Ala Moana (single family home) from Makiki (high rise condo) over a year ago. My new house is surrounded by numerous cell towers and since my moving, I have developed an electromagnetic sensitivity. My older son who is only 18 years old has also developed this sensitivity after living in the house for about 6 months. I can spot at least 3 cell towers from my bedroom and can spot at least 2 from my kids'. What this means is that we are very limited to how much time we spend on electronics such as cell phones, computers, etc. Due to the virus, most of the in-person meetings and events have been replaced with virtual ones and my son is having a hard time attending programs and classes due to his sensitivity. My husband and I spent more than $15,000 to consult with experts and shield the house from radio frequencies emitted from those cell towers so that we are not exposed to a massive amount of EMFs while we are at home which I believe that either the state or the telecom companies should be paying instead. While there are many cities, countries, and places have stricter regulations on cell towers and cell phone usage related to radio frequency (The WHO/International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has classified radiofrequency electromagnetic fields as possibly carcinogenic to humans (Group 2B), based on an increased risk for glioma, a malignant type of brain cancerl, associated with wireless phone use), unfortunately, Hawaii does not. Passing this reso in Hawaii county will help the rest of the state develop stricter regulations. Please disregard any spelling and/or grammatical errors, if any, as English is my second language.
