Re: A resolution urging the Mayor's office to authorize Google and/or Apple to
release Sustain Hawai`i's "Safe Travels contact tracing application" -for voluntary
use by County constituents to augment existing safety protocols currently in place
in the State of Hawai `i in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Please find attached a resolution calling upon the Mayor's office to approve the Safe Travels
application ready for release by Sustain Hawaii, Google, and/or Apple to aid in slowing the
spread of COVID-19 in the County.
Because digital contact tracing applications are a relatively new concept that may be unfamiliar
to the public, Exhibit "A" is included to provide additional information on how the Safe Travels
application works and to explain how the technology addresses privacy concerns.
I am requesting that this resolution be placed in the appropriate corrunittee for the meeting to be
held on September 1, 2020. Thank you..
