Subject: Bill 179 Opposes Factory Built Housing I oppose "Appendix L Factory Built Housing" (FBH)
and all references to FBH in the proposed ordinance, pages 90-92.
I sent an online testimony on July 6, 2020 and I still believe that FBH is another version of a mobile home,which is illegal in the
state of Hawaii.
In a time when record numbers of people are unemployed more people will be laid off. FBH's will eliminate jobs that a
qualified skilled carpenter has acquired by going to school and on the job learning. He/she won't have to lay out or figure
opening dimensions for doors or windows, or figure out roof details overhangs, hips and valley rafters.All of this will be done
in a factory setting and delivered to the site and erected. Contractors will not need to pay the wages of a qualified carpenter
and will replace workers with laborers unless they take a cut in pay.
What's the comparison of an FBH to traditionally built framed house during a hurricane?
Does the value of an FBH appreciates like a traditionally built framed house?
Quicken Loans one of Americas largest lenders doesn't have loans for Pre- manufactured homes and modular homes. It's a bad
long term investment.
Theirs some pros for FBH but I believe in the long term the cons far outweighs the pros.
