Please accept this written testimony for Bill#179 communication 989 introduced by Ms. Susan Lee Loy.
In dealing with the building code on a daily basis with clients buying and selling homes, I have found a
repetitive problem with the requirements put forth from local utility companies vs. what the building
code requires.
Most commonly, the hook up to the propane tanks are placed in an area that the gas company will not
allow a hook up.Accordingto the Gas Company, the propane tanks need to be 10 ft. away from any
p
type of water heater or electrical box. This is not stated in the code as far as I have read. Granted I may
have missed it or it needs to be amended, but this is a problem that requires after the fact monies,
where many homeowners to have to re-pipe the system and move the connection because the
contractor did not adhere to the Gas Company's rules.
I believe the code should follow requirement from all local utilities including cable, electrical, water and
gas, and this should be made part of the code.
Thank you for your time to address this situation.
