I ask that you support Bill 179, a long overdue update to the building code. -
It is also important to preserve Appendix L in the building code, which allows for factory built housing.
As we`all know, Hawaii County -- like the rest of the State -- does not have enough truly affordable housing. And the
need for affordable housing continues to outpace the construction of affordable housing. The lack of affordable
housing means that working families and individuals cannot afford housing or are overburdened by housing costs.
We need a broad range of solutions to address our affordable housing shortage. Factory built housing is just one
solution. It has the advantage of being market driven and financially self sustainable and NOT reliant on government
County/State/Federal subsidies.
Once again, I ask that you support Bill 179 and preserve Appendix L.
