Aloha Councilmembers,
COUNTY CLERK
COUNTY OF HAWAII

Mahalo for hearing / accepting testimony for Reso 678-2o at Wednesday's council meeting. Just a quick
email to say that I SUPPORT this Resolution that would cease the buildout of 5G wireless
infrastructure on island until that time that they have been proven to be safe. In science we
call this the "precautionary principle" and it seems like a wise move for our island with this novel
innovation that may or may not cause harm to our island residents (and wildlife!).
Resolution 678-20: CALLING UPON ALL TELECOMMUNICATIONS COMPANIES AND
PUBLIC UTILITIES OPERATING IN HAWAII COUNTY TO CEASE THE BUILDOUT
OF 5G WIRELESS INFRASTRUCTURE UNTIL SUCH TECHNOLOGIES HAVE BEEN
PROVEN THROUGH INDEPENDENT RESEARCH AND TESTING TO BE SAFE TO
HUMAN HEALTH AND THE ENVIRONMENT.
Here are some excerpts from articles from science journals that show there may be some cause for concern
with 5G, and that this pause to really review the impacts (as Reso 678-20 spells out) is valid and legitimate!
From https://www.nature.com/articles/d42473-019-00009-7:
"The physiological effects of electromagnetic radiation change with frequency, so the advent
of 5G triggered a major international review of relevant radiation safety guidelines, for which
it's agreed that there is insufficient data for a meaningful health risk assessment."
From httr)s://bloas.scientificamerican.com/observations/we-have-no-reason-to-believe-5a-is-safe/:
"As a society, should we invest hundreds of billions of dollars deploying 5G, a cellular
technology that requires the installation of 800,000 or more new cell antenna sites in the
U.S. close to where we live, work and play?
Instead, we should support the recommendations of the 250 scientists and medical
doctors who signed the n- GG..ApDeal that calls for an immediate moratorium on the
deployment of 5G and demand that our government fund the research needed to adopt
biologically based exposure limits that protect our health and safety."
Many thanks for your time and consideration!
A special mahalo to CM Kaneali'i-Kleinfelder for bringing this resolution to the table.
Best, Comm. No. 956.5y7
