RESOLUTION NO. 729 20
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE EXPLORATION
FOUNDATION TO PURCHASE CHROMEBOOKS FOR STUDENTS AT THE WEST
HAWAII EXPLORATIONS ACADEMY.
WHEREAS, the Exploration Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose
mission is to promote educational innovation through outreach, technical assistance, and
advocacy for the West Hawaii Explorations Academy (WHEA), a public charter school that
focuses on the advancement of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through
hands-on, project-based learning; and
WHEREAS, WHEA has implemented distanced learning to best ensure physical
distancing among its students, teachers, and school staff; and
WHEREAS, the Exploration Foundation is requesting funds to purchase Chromebook
laptops for the students of WHEA during the COVID-19 pandemic to assist with distanced
learning; and
WHEREAS, one of the goals of the Department of Liquor Control is to support youth
programs that promote educational activities in a drug- and alcohol-free environment; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 8 will be appropriated to the Department of
Liquor Control to provide a grant to the Exploration Foundation to purchase Chromebooks for
students at the West Hawai`i Explorations Academy.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Liquor Control and Director of Finance, and that the Director of
Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this
resolution.
