COUNTY OF HAWAII * ,��. . •: STATE OF HAWAII <br /> ''),TEOFN�'�' , <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 730 20 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE EXPLORATION <br /> FOUNDATION TO PURCHASE CHROMEBOOKS FOR STUDENTS AT THE WEST <br /> HAWAII EXPLORATIONS ACADEMY . <br /> WHEREAS, the Exploration Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose <br /> mission is to promote educational innovation through outreach, technical assistance, and <br /> advocacy for the West Hawai`i Explorations Academy (WHEA), a public charter school that <br /> focuses on the advancement of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through <br /> hands-on project based learning; and <br /> WHEREAS, in accordance with how many public schools on Hawaii Island have <br /> decided to safely start the school year, WHEA has implemented distance learning to best ensure <br /> physical distancing among its students, teachers, and school staff; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Exploration Foundation is requesting funds to purchase chromebook <br /> laptops for the students at WHEA during the COVID-19 pandemic to enhance distance learning <br /> capabilities and to promote public safety; and <br /> WHEREAS, one of the goals of the Department of Liquor Control is to conduct and/or <br /> support public and youth programs through educational activities in a drug- and alcohol-free <br /> environment; and <br /> WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br /> activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br /> therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 7 will be appropriated to the Department of <br /> Liquor Control to provide a grant to the Exploration Foundation to assist with expenses related to <br /> chromebook laptops for students at the West Hawai`i Explorations Academy. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby <br /> transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
