HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOM 0430.042 2018-2020 From: Debra Smith Sent: Monday, September 14, 2020 11:54 AM COUNTY CLERK : Council Testimony COUNTY 7OF HAWAI' Subject: Comm. 430.35 testimony RECEIVED. me If:%&M B Date SEP 1 4 2020 Aloha Council Members, Lower Puna is stuck in limbo. Nothing has moved forward and we are not given true answers why. No timelines have been released t for road recovery, there are many people still not able to return home. We still need basic infrastructure. What happened to the priority to get people home?We are not in recovery, we are still in disaster mode. Why has Pohoiki Road not been started? .Why can't we have a timeline for 137 to access Vacationland? Why can't we be given information on the status of a management plan for Cape Kumukahi? What happened to the recovery grants we applied for? For me personally, my husband and I have been walking/biking to our home almost daily for 18 months now. We could be living there if we could drive in to fix the infrastructure that was damaged. We continue to have to spend money on rent that should be going to repairs. We are becoming emotionally and physically exhausted, this is not good for our health. We need to go home. If the County would just restore our roads, it would eliminate a ton of the angst that we feel, then we could move forward with true recovery. Please help us.
