RESOLUTION NO. 748 20
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO HOSPICE OF HILO TO
CREATE A POHAI MALAMA CARE CENTER BROCHURE.
WHEREAS, Hospice of Hilo (doing business as Hawai`i Care Choices) is a 501(c)(3)
nonprofit organization that provides medical, social, and spiritual services for terminally ill
patients at end of life, and offers support, respite, and bereavement care to their families and
caregivers; and
WHEREAS, Hospice of Hilo provides on-site care services at its inpatient facility, Pohai
Malama Care Center; and
WHEREAS, during the pandemic, Hospice of Hilo has noticed an increase in inquiries
from families requesting information about its inpatient hospice services; and
WHEREAS, in order to raise awareness and educate the public, Hospice of Hilo is
creating a Pohai Malama Care Center Brochure; and
WHEREAS, Hospice of Hilo is requesting funding assistance to cover graphic design
expenses; and
WHEREAS, the Office of Aging supports organizations that provide services for the
community and those in need of end-of-life care; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 5 will be appropriated to the Office of Aging to
provide a grant to Hospice of Hilo (doing business as Hawai`i Care Choices) to create a Pohai
Malama Care Center Brochure.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the County Executive on Aging and Director of Finance, and that the Director of
Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this
resolution.
