No. 735-20 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i <br /> TIME: 11:03 a.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawai`i County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 735-20, reports as follows: <br /> Resolution No. 735-20, transmitted by Finance Director Deanna Sako, via Communication No. 1083 <br /> dated September 18, 2020, authorizes the Office of the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the <br /> University of Hawai`i. <br /> This resolution provides $13,076 from the Department of Research and Development to the University of <br /> Hawai`i to fund its Increasing Production of Novel Floriculture Products for Import Replacement project. <br /> Funds would be used to purchase plant and propagation materials, and for costs associated with <br /> cultivation and data collection. <br /> A motion to move Resolution No. 735-20 to Council with a positive recommendation was made by <br /> Council Member Rebecca Villegas, and seconded by Council Member Herbert M. "Tim" Richards, III. <br /> Research and Development Economic Development Specialist Glenn Sako addressed Your Committee, <br /> noting that the agreement with the University of Hawai`i is to establish other floriculture production <br /> opportunities for commercialization and further branding of Hawai`i Island's agricultural industry.
