RESOLUTION NO. 759 20 A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT PROVIDE A GRANT TO LA`I`OPUA 2020 FOR EXPENSES TO PROVIDE FREE MEALS IN KA`U DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. WHEREAS, La`i`Opua 2020 is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that promotes unity by establishing social, educational, recreational, medical, and cultural services, programs, and infrastructure that assist the residents of Hawai`i County; and WHEREAS, the COVID-19 pandemic is causing severe hardship on families in Ka`u including the ability for able bodied adults to provide meals for children and kupuna; and WHEREAS, La`i`Opua 2020 will be preparing and delivering free meals in the Ka`u area; and WHEREAS, La`i`Opua 2020 is requesting funds to assist with food and supplies associated with the preparation and delivery of the free meals; and WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports organizations and programs that promote the health, safety, and welfare of the community through alcohol-, tobacco-, and drug- free activities; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 6 will be appropriated to the Department of Liquor Control to provide a grant to La`i`Opua 2020 for expenses to provide free meals in Ka`u during the COVID-19 pandemic. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
